on edge

With scheduling for next year coming up and reflecting on this year so far, I have considered dropping my sport and taking less AP's numerous times. Everytime I catch up and get a break, I somehow convince myself that AP's aren't that hard and plan to take more the following year. It doesn't help that there is pressure to strive for more when it comes to difficult courses at Troy High. It's even worse when you come in as a freshman and don't account for how you will feel after school and practice. Plus AP's require anywhere from 1-4 hours of your time and that can cut into sleep. Though this pie chart was based on college student responses, I believe it's pretty accurate for students taking a million AP courses because you could potentially recieve college credit for them.
Then comes college board. Since middle school we have had to battle college board. With the PSAT scores and now AP courses. It truly is a vicious cycle. Every year we have to complete these steps which will help us prepare for our future. In reality, it's just sitting there, waiting for us to come back each year and complete the next step. If you signed up with your email, then I am truly sorry for the spam mail from various colleges that you have recieved. Everytime we finish a semester I forget to consider all of the nights that I stayed up late studying, the anxiety I've felt on test days- as if none of it happened. I just want to be successful, which, to be frank; is hard to do on 3 hours of sleep. And yet, I'd rather be sleep deprived with all A's then well rested and failing my classes. Academic validation for the win!
