Van Houtte Farm
One of my favorite places to visit during the summer is Van Houtte farms. When you drive down romeo plank road, the first thing you see are flowers.
All you have to do is pay for a glass jar. Then they give you clippers and you can start picking!
They are open from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and in my opinion, it's best to go in the afternoon. When the sun is shining brightly :) Below is a video of a gardener who discovered the farm, she walks you through it! (You can skip a little bit of the beginning).
My favorite flowers are the ones that look like pompoms, but they take up most of the jar. So if you want a variety; it would be best to hold back on them.
I have only visited during the summer but I'm sure it's just as beautiful in the fall. They have many pictures on their website of pumpkins.
The first time my family and I visited, my little sister could barely walk. She didn't appreciate the scorching hot sun and bees, so we didn't stay for long. Once we were home, all she wanted to do was stare at the sunflowers we had picked. Below is a picture of her staring at one like she is going to eat it.
Here is a picture of one of my mini boquet's:
Before we left I made sure to make a flower ring because I couldn't fit any more flowers in the jar. :(
There are only a few negative things about the farm. For example, if you visit too late in the season, most of the flowers will be gone. But for some reason, there are always giant sunflowers in the field- so even if this does happen to you, at least you’ll be able to pick some. Another negative thing is that in the summer, there is no shade (shocker, right?) and if you live an hour away from the farm (like I do) it’s going to seem not worth it to drive for a longer amount of time than you spend there. I still think it’s worth it because you get a glass full of flowers but my little sister says otherwise.
Here is another video of the farm, skip to 2:25 to see flowers!
