Is genetically modifying traits moral?

Some argue that it is immoral as it is not traditional and not developed enough to avoid mutations (which are inevitable at this point). Others argue that the development would be beneficial because the parents could choose whether their kids have specfic traits and potentially, better quality of life if they are considered more desirable (features that make an individual conventionally attractive). While beauty is subjective, pretty privilege is very much a thing. However, the question isn't who is right. It's, is genetically modifying traits moral? ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Objectification ________________________________________________________________________________________________ Modifying genes of your child so they have better eye sight, color or are taller is like modifying your car or improving the interior of your home. The difference is that the "thing" you're modifying is a human. Could this be objectification? Parents usually brag about their childrens success and push them to strive to be the best that they can be. Like their child is a trophy to brag about to their friends for popularity points. Modifying traits could be an extremely severe case of objectification as it could turn into modifying your childs traits so they are more conventionally attractive. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ "Legal" ________________________________________________________________________________________________ If it is not illegal, is it morally right? This is an obvious no. Not all laws and policies in history were morally right. They were established in hopes of improving the economy or helping people. ________________________________________________________________________________________________ In my opinion, I think we should develop it because it could potentially improve our lives. There are downsides, like mutations, but the progression of everything that incorporates technology has downsides because of human error.
